The vapours enter via the uppermost vapour collecting hood and transmit down through the tubes to a bottom collection tank where the condensate is collected and continuously discharged. This Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger is an improved design of condenser through which cooling water enters around the bottom of the shell, circulates around the tubes and exits as hot water near the top of the shell.
